2027 Medicare Annual Election Period (AEP)
October 15 – December 7, 2026
2027 Medicare Annual Election Period
Medicare plans can change their premiums, copays, deductibles, prescription coverage, benefits, and provider networks each year. The Annual Election Period (AEP), October 15 through December 7, is your opportunity to review your coverage and make changes for 2027.
Medicare generally serves people age 65 and older, along with certain younger individuals with disabilities or qualifying medical conditions.
What Can You Do During AEP?
- Enroll in a Medicare Advantage (Part C) or prescription drug (Part D) plan if eligible.
- Switch your Medicare Advantage or Part D coverage.
- Keep your current plan. Coverage generally renews automatically unless the plan is discontinued or you take other action.

Medicare Gap Plans
Medicare Advantage vs Medicare Supplement
There are 2 types of plans designed to fill the gaps left by Medicare. There are Medicare Advantage Plans and Medicare Supplement plans. Medicare Supplement plans tend to have higher premiums than Medicare Advantage but less potential financial exposure. Supplements do not include many of the extra and ancillary benefits offered by Medicare Advantage (Dental, Vision, OTC, etc) Also Medicare Supplement plans do not include drug coverage, you have to get a standalone Medicare Part D; prescription drug plan.
